IS IT TIME FOR YOU TO SPECIALIZE IN TREATING COMPLEX FAMILIES?
I searched and searched for an intervention that was streamlined and designed for treating intergenerational trauma. I found one program but it wasn't based on current relational neuroscience or evidence-based attachment interventions.
Over the next 10 years, I took a deep dive into the integration of Polyvagal Theory, relational neuroscience, child development, and contextual family therapy. In 2021, I started to formally develop The Courageous Way - Intergenerational trauma program. The entire training program was completed in 2022.
Now it is available to you! Are you ready to specialize your practice with complex families?

High turn over rates in therapist caseloads causes more
burnout and a lack of confidence.
Therapists struggling with burnout, high client turnover, and frustration feel less effective and consider leaving the profession due to their dissatisfaction.
Therapists who leave the profession may have paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for their education, certifications, and trainings. Leaving your education behind is a costly lesson when there is a better solution!
Piecing together information from books, courses, and trainings is cumbersome and rarely results in a streamlined, efficient process or framework.
Nagging self-doubt and imposter syndrome plagues therapists. It leads to greater attempts to learn more and more skills...and also more burnout!
After years of shutting down and feeling burned out, therapists can become frustrated with clients or complicated families.
Intergenerational Trauma Program
Specialty training program for therapists to effectively treat intergenerational trauma using a three-phase intervention for building intergenerational resilience in complex families. Interventions based on a unique integration of Polyvagal Theory, relational neuroscience, child development, and family resilience. Client outcomes include improved regulation across the family system by enhancing self-regulation in the parent and coregulation with the child. Increased earned secure attachment and attention to child development improve the parent-child relationship and family mental health. Ultimately, there is greater connection between family members and increased family resilience through harnessing the strengths of previous generations.
Calm the family nervous system through parent coaching. This phase provides safety and stabilization in the family system. Interventions are based on relational neuroscience, Polyvagal Theory, and child/teen development. The skills also begin to address the parent's unresolved trauma by increasing capacity for self-regulation.
Unresolved complex trauma in the caregiver is addressed through a Polyvagal framework. The intervention is a six step process designed to address neuroception and develop a resilience based narrative. When the caregiver's trauma is resolved, there is greater capacity to be effective and present with their children or teens.
When the caregiver has greater effectiveness in parenting, the child or teen's trauma is addressed in the context of intergenerational resilience. Interventions are based on developmental stages and additional strategies for caregivers are also included. Interventions for building resilience withing the family system are also included.
